Mystery breakouts

If you have acne-prone skin, the useful question about a product isn’t whether it’s clean, natural or expensive. It’s whether it contains something comedogenic. That information exists, but it’s scattered across forums and research papers, and nobody is going to cross-reference thirty ingredients by hand before buying a moisturiser.

fivepointfive does it in one paste.

The work

The tool

Copy an ingredient list off any product, paste it in, get a verdict on each ingredient across four tiers: highly comedogenic, use with caution, not pore-clogging, and not yet rated.

That last tier matters more than it looks. A tool that guesses when it doesn’t know is worse than useless for someone actively treating acne, so unknowns are labelled as unknown rather than quietly passed.

An ingredient index behind it

The checker is the front door; the index is the substance. Every rated ingredient has its own entry, which is also what gives the site something to rank for beyond the tool itself.

A deliberate visual break

Dark, technical, monospaced where the data lives, with corner brackets on the input panel and a heavy condensed headline. Most skincare sites are soft pink and reassuring. This one is meant to read as an instrument, because that’s what people want when they’re trying to work out what wrecked their skin.

Where it stands

Newly launched, and already surfacing for precisely the right kind of query: “is polysorbate 20 comedogenic”, “polysorbate 60 comedogenic”, “isopropyl palmitate”. Those are people mid-diagnosis, standing in a shop with a bottle in their hand. Exactly who the tool is for.

It’s sitting on page three of those results, which is the work in front of me. Numbers go here once it’s climbed.

The reason it’s in the portfolio: this is the kind of thing I build for clients when a template won’t do. Healthy Skin Club got a custom ingredient analyzer for the same reason. A tool that answers a real question keeps people on your site and gives Google something worth ranking.

Product build

I build tools for this industry, and websites for the people in it.

fivepointfive is here for range. The rest of the work is studio websites and the local search behind them.
